Merritt James Green

Merritt James Green founded General Counsel, P.C. in 2004. As Managing Partner, he led the firm’s development and growth over nearly 20 years to where the firm now represents a broad variety of individuals, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit businesses, from start-ups to billion-dollar organizations.

Over the years since founding General Counsel, he held leadership roles in numerous charitable, community, and networking organizations, including as a Board Member and Board Chair of the McLean Chamber of Commerce, Co-Founder of the Washington Executives Association, Board Member of the Community Business Partnership, Board Member of Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church, and Co-Founder of the DC Xcelerator Entrepreneur Program.

In addition to his professional and community achievements, Merritt was an Eagle Scout from a young age, and he continued to embody the values of the scouting community into adulthood. He was the Co-Founder and Chair of NOVA Eagle Business Networking, providing a platform for DC-area Eagle Scouts to connect and network. His dedication to the scouting community was further recognized in 2016 when he received the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. Merritt's commitment to leadership and service has left a lasting impact on the scouting community and beyond.

Merritt's adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors were truly infectious, whether he was skiing, golfing, or boating. His vibrant personality and boundless zest for life left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we mourn his passing, we are dedicated to carrying on his legacy by embracing life with the same love, dedication, and enthusiasm that he so wholeheartedly embodied. Merritt leaves behind a profound legacy of service and dedication that will continue to inspire us all.
