Mary Helen Medina practices primarily in the areas of employment and labor and corporate law. She has represented domestic and multi-national corporate clients in labor and employment matters. She has litigated, negotiated, mediated, arbitrated and settled claims concerning employment discrimination under Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, and wage and hour claims under the FLSA. She has also practiced in the area of traditional labor union matters where she has arbitrated over 100 labor and management disputes and has negotiated collective bargaining agreements with local and national unions.
Ms. Medina has argued cases before numerous federal district courts, state courts, and local administrative agencies throughout the U.S., including the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She has successfully settled various disputes pre and post litigation.
Ms. Medina advises clients on general corporate matters. She served as SVP and Chief Counsel for a food, beverage and retail company with 34,000 employees and $2.7 billion in revenue with presence domestically and in 15 countries where she was responsible for growing the portfolio of license and franchise agreements, negotiating a wide array of agreements, handled litigation and human relations matters, was involved in several domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, and dealt with alcohol and beverage compliance issues. She also served as SVP and General Counsel for $2.4 billion casino resort hotel where she created new processes and procedures for contract reviews and a management system, managed and performed all compliance and gaming requirements, served on the compliance committee and was a legal advisor regarding corporate governance matters, negotiated a wide scope of contracts, including long term commercial contracts in multi-unit food and retail complex, purchase and sales agreements, supplier agreements, and IT infrastructure agreements totaling a value in excess of $1.5 billion dollars.
Ms. Medina graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. degree from New Mexico State University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
