Jim Allen serves as the Chair of the Litigation Department at General Counsel, PC, where he works with our clients in avoidance and management of all manner of disputes.  He has practiced law since 1993, and he is licensed in State and Federal Courts in Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia, The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the State Bar of Missouri (inactive).

Jim has gained significant experience in many different aspects of general legal practice, with a focus on litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other forms of dispute resolution.
Jim has tried cases before juries throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and before judges and arbitrators throughout the Eastern United States.  This breadth of experience benefits Jim’s clients both in avoiding the Courtroom where possible, and in the Courtroom when necessary.

Mr. Allen also counsels many small and mid-sized businesses on various legal issues, including employment and contract matters.   Jim’s experience as a litigator makes him a better counselor, as he can draw on his experience in the Courts to better predict how certain issues may become problematic, and how they may be solved more efficiently.

Jim has worked at several large firms in the DC metro area, as well as running his own solo practice which grew into a small firm.

Community Involvement

Jim is actively involved in the community, believing that being a professional in this community extends beyond the office.  Jim graduated from the Leadership Loudoun program (2009) and the Loudoun Citizens Police Academy (2010).  Jim currently serves on the Financial Advisory Committee for the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad.  Jim has also been appointed as an arbitrator in the 19th Circuit Committee on the Resolution of Fee Disputes, a program run by the Virginia State Bar.

Jim is an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church, where he previously served on the Vestry (including both Junior and Senior Warden) and as the chair of a prior Rector Search Committee.  In the past, he has been involved with youth sports including baseball, softball, and soccer, as well as cub and boy scout groups.

Personal Information

Jim is married to Kristina Allen and they are raising three children. He and his family live in Ashburn, and have called Loudoun their home since 1995. They are currently involved with club and high school swimming programs, and school events for their children.
